A micro-forest at CREPS Bordeaux!
In line with its environmental policy, the Bordeaux CREPS has acquired tree seedlings donated by Bordeaux Métropole, with the aim of creating an urban micro-forest.
The micro-forest technique originated in Japan, developed in the 1970s by botanist Akira Miyawaki, and refers to a diverse ecosystem with the complexity of a small-scale forest.
In concrete terms, these micro-forests grow 10 times faster than the average (around 1m per year), reduce fine-particle pollution by 15%, temperature by 2 degrees, noise by 10 dB, and play a major role in health and well-being by reducing stress, anxiety, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases, while reinstating biodiversity in urban areas.
At the beginning of April, CREPS green space staff planted 6760 plants, including European fusain, sea buckthorn, privet, cherry, honeysuckle, rose, blackthorn and willow. These plantings represent
2253 square meters.
