World Sailing Championships results

The crystal-clear waters of Lanzarote in the Canary Islands were the setting for the 49erFX dinghy world championships from March 4 to 10, 2024. The event was marked by impressive performances from French athletes and an official selection for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. ⛵🌍🏅

Charline Picon and Sarah Steyaert, two outstanding sportswomen from the Fédération Française de Voile, by the Maison régionale de la performance de Nouvelle-Aquitaine since the start of their quest for qualification. Picon, a double Olympic medallist in windsurfing (gold in Rio and silver in Tokyo), took the gamble of changing support after her second Olympic medal, finished 33rd alongside Steyaert, she had taken 7th place at the Rio Olympics. Their participation in the Paris 2024 Olympics has been confirmed by the selection committee.

From July 28 to August 1, sailing fans will have the opportunity to follow the 49er FX events of the “Mama Team” in Marseille. This crew can be followed on their Instagram account:

What’s more, Clément Péquin, also supported by the Maison Régionale de la Performance, and Erwan Fischer shone by becoming world champions, dethroning the three-time world champions from the Netherlands. This historic victory for France in this category reinforces the confidence of the French crew, already highlighted by their silver medal at the Test Event in Marseille in July 2023. These performances give the French team a real chance of winning an Olympic medal in this highly competitive discipline.
